Information Technology

There are very few aspects of our daily business lives in which computers are not used. Thinking of items that surround you and are used every day, will give you some insight into the many applications of computers:  your microwave;  cell phone;  modern car, satellite navigator and watch.  Just about every piece of technology in our environment has some type of computer driven process within it.

A computer, if we had to give it a basic description, is a device which does what it is told. Computer programming is the language which tells the computer what to do.  Every time you work on a spreadsheet, make a phone call, drive your car, respond to traffic lights, or even just open your fridge, you are relying on a computer programme which has been designed by a specially trained person in the field.

Information Technology sets the pace for innovation within any structure including that of an organisation.  It is our technology that determines how a function will be achieved. Information is vital to the survival of an organisation.   Knowledge about the value of information technology and all its dimensions therefore is critical for any leader, manager or visionary. Awareness of the potential of information technology as well as the varied applications lead us into the exciting world of innovation.
